Bionic eye arrives. Six Million Dollar Man to follow soon!
A company called Second Sight has just created a prosthetic that is giving sight to the blind. Well, ok so it’s only one test subject (73 years young!) and all they’ve done is allowed him to detect light. But for a guy who’s been blind since his 40’s, that’s quite the accomplishment.
The prosthetic works using a tiny camera and processor on the eyeglass frame. The information is transmitted wirelessly to a tiny received on the outside of the eye. Ron, the subject, indicated that he’s now able to differentiate between black, white, and grey socks, and that he can follow white lines on the road.
For those of you who grew up with Steve Austin:
I’m planning on retrofitting my entire body when I turn 60. How about you?
