Humanoid robots, sooner than you think…
How many uses can you think of for a robotic hand that is dexterous enough to pick up a fragile light bulb without crushing it? I can think of at least five, none of them appropriate for discussing in a public forum. However, a team over at Virginia Tech’s Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory have designed just such a hand.

This is part of a larger project that plans to implement the first full size walking humanoid robot based entirely on designs done in the US. And what are they going to do with it?
You guessed it. Play Soccer!

There is actually an event called Robocup. It’s held in Singapore.

Things will change when they develop a robot that can do more than change light bulbs: I’m thinking in terms of a robot that can not only wash all the dishes, but also avoid short-circuiting from the dishwater. That there would be a fantastic invention: assuming it didn’t go crazy and start chasing humans.
