iOS 5 Beta shows gesture-based controls

iOS 5 Gestures

9 to 5 Mac has just released a video and screenshots of what seems to be a new gestured-based control feature on iOS 5 beta.  The new video shows that future iPhone and iPads could possibly do away with all physical buttons, save for the on/off button.

The new onscreen controls show the ability to change screen orientation, raise and lower volume, and to even lock the screen.  The panel is activated  with a swipe from a user-designated corner on the device’s screen and once the panel is activated, a HUD (heads-up-display) menu will appear.

Could this feature just be a feature that users can turn on and off at their desire or does this signal the future of Apple devices?  Check out the video below.
