Listen to Music Just Like Barbie

February 14th, 2009 No comments

Saturday morning commercials are what kids live for. They tell kids which cereals to nag their parents for, what new PopTart flavors to try, and what great new toys are coming out. During my time in childhood, I can remember an endless stream of commercials promoting Barbie accessories. It seems that the people over at Mattel have done it again.

Music, Barbie Style!

Now young girls (presumably) can listen to music just like Barbie with the pink mp3 player made to look like a make-up compact. While listening to the music, Barbie and the listener can check their hair, makeup, and teeth just to make sure they are perfect.

While the new Barbie mp3 is pretty cool, I think I will stick with my iPod for just a little longer…

BumpTop Makes Desktops Exciting Again

February 12th, 2009 No comments

Windows based operating systems have always had such a boring desktop experience.  Just a background with a bunch of scattered icons.  Surprisingly enough, this has not changed either from Windows 95 all the way to the beast called Vista.  No one has any great expectations for the highly anticipated Windows 7 either.

Those who use Mac operating systems get to have a little bit more fun, but not much.  Rather than scattered icons on a background, Apple users get a background with a cool icon toolbar at the bottom.  Sometimes the icons bounce when they are clicked on.  At this point, OSX is what life on the edge is like in the world of desktops.

A little program called BumpTop is out to change it all.  BumpTop is an interactive desktop which functions much like your workdesk does.  Icons can be tossed around, organized in stacks, posted on the wall, and even crumpled into balls and thrown around.  Check out the screenshot of BumpTop below, or click to listen to BumpTop founder’s explanation and presentation at TED.

Reading 2.0 with the Amazon Kindle 2.0

February 8th, 2009 1 comment

Amazon dazzled the masses with the release of their first version of the Kindle reader.  On Monday, February 9th, Amazon will unveil the highly anticipated sequel product – the Kindle 2.  The Kindle 2 sports a sleeker figure, carrying the same features as the original Kindle, and possibly the add-on of speakers.

For $359 anyone can own the Kindle, and read books, newspapers, and blogs from anywhere without having to have a physical copy of the book or newspaper on hand.  Buying books and newspaper subscriptions from the Kindle is generally a less expensive option, given that the reader is only buying the content and not the material the content is printed on.  The Kindle is also a “greener” option, as it cuts down on the amount of trees needed to manufacture paper.

While the Kindle 2 will be unveiled on Monday, the Kindle 2 will not officially go on sale until February 24th.  Below are a few photos that have been leaked.  Pending any significant changes the Kindle 2 should look like this at its unveiling on February 9th.

Declare War on your Office Mates with a USB Cannon.

February 1st, 2009 No comments

Firebox Declare War on your Office Mates with a USB Cannon.A lot of people complain about their jobs.  Many say that their job has just lost its appeal, and has become monotonous and boring.  Maybe it’s time you spiced things up a little bit in the office with a USB cannon.

The USB cannon plugs right into the USB port of your PC or laptop.  Load the cannon with nerf darts, and press the appropriate command on your computer to shoot the darts up to 10 feet!  No longer must you deal with Wanda’s pervasive giggling about funny animal pictures two cubicles away.  A simple pop! on the noggin with a nerf dart should shut her right up for the day.  Three cubicles down, Jim is listening to Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” for the 5th time this morning.  A thwap! with the nerf dart should spare you from the rockin’ 80′s  for the rest of the morning.

And you thought work was boring…

Nothing Says Love Like a Pink iPod Nano

Apple iPod%20nano%208GB%20Pink%20(4th%20Generation) MP3%20Players%20&%20Accessories Nothing Says Love Like a Pink iPod NanoWith Valentine’s Day just two weeks away, now is the time to start thinking about what you should get your special friend.  You got her flowers last year, chocolates the year before, and took her out to a super fancy dinner the year before that.  V-Day is closing in and your mind is still blank.

Enter the Pink iPod Nano.  The pink nano is available in 4GB and 8GB versions, which basically means that one holds a lot of music and the other can hold double that.  To make the gift even sweeter, include an iTunes gift card, or better yet, download a bunch of sweet love songs before handing the iPod over.

If you don’t have a special friend to give the pink nano to, how about giving one to your mom?  Who knows, she might finally forgive you for the time you switched her shampoo with hair removal cream.
